Overview
Marel introduces the new Sensor X Bone Analysis System that automatically detects bones in chicken fillets. This sophisticated and efficient solution increases the level of knowledge of the production process and therefore delivers safer and more valuable product.
Main benefits:
- Uses advanced X-ray technology for best results
- Provides a safer, more valuable product
- Reduces labour costs
- Offers better data, fewer bones, less rework and no claims
Can you spot a bone? We can!

X-Ray vision
The SensorX poultry bone detection machine automatically identifies bones and other foreign objects in poultry meat. It scans the product using advanced X-ray technology. Although it was designed for bone detection, the SensorX can easily detect other contaminants such as metal, stone and glass.
Detected contaminants can be highlighted on a high-resolution color display for easy removal. (Non-detectable contaminants are soft cartilage, wood and most types of plastics.)
The SensorX commonly achieves a 99% detection rate on calcified bones larger than 2mm, with false positives below 3%.
Where in the process?
The SensorX was designed to be used in the wet environment of the deboning area. All common deboning methods unavoidably leave bones in a substantial percentage of the meat. Marel recommends that the bone issue is tackled at the source, right after deboning.
This saves resources that would otherwise be spent on processing product not properly deboned. It also ensures that valuable realtime information is provided for optimal deboning performance.
Features
Improved Deboning Process
This sophisticated and efficient solution increases the knowledge of the deboning process and delivers safer and more valuable product. Real-time feedback on the rate of bone-in fillets, and analysis of the nature of bone defects, provides a tool for deboning process consistency and improvement.
Better Data – Higher Quality
Random checks at a quality control station provide valuable history of quality factors resulting in higher product value. All controllers can be accessed remotely from the office or even from a Marel service facility for preventive maintenance or fault diagnostics.
X-Ray Computer Vision
X-Ray Computer VisionThe SensorX Poultry Bone Analysis System automatically identifies bones and other foreign objects in chicken meat. The SensorX scans the product for bone content using X-ray computer vision. Detected bones are highlighted on a high-resolution display terminal for easy removal.
Accurate Bone Detection
Accurate Bone DetectionThe SensorX detects bones of various types and sends a signal to a reject or a QC station which directs the fillets to different gates or workstations, based on the bone content. Compact and easy to operate, the SensorX fits into most current processing lines without major changes.
