A group of 50 business executives from the Netherlands visited Marel Food Systems’ headquarters in Gardabaer yesterday. Marel’s CEO, Theo Hoen, who is himself Dutch, received the group and introduced the company’s operations.
The economic situation in Iceland and a possible application for EU membership were the main topics in a lively panel discussion that followed a tour of Marel’s production facilities. In addition to Theo Hoen, the panel included Asbjorn Gislason, CEO of Samskip, one of the largest container transport companies in Europe, and Helga Valfells, adviser to the Minister of Business Affairs of Iceland.
It‘s a short stop in Iceland for the Dutch group. It arrived in Iceland yesterday afternoon and immediately following the visit to Marel, the group headed straight for the Myrdals glacier. This morning, after a few short hours of sleep, the group visited the Blue Lagoon to relax a bit before the flight back home this afternoon.
The executives are all members of BZW, an employers’ association in the southern part of the Netherlands. The trip was organized by the Dutch travel agency IJsland Exclusief, which – as the name implies – specializes in trips to Iceland.
