A total of 1,600 ideas were submitted in this year’s Innovation Competition for Primary School Children in Iceland. Marel is the main sponsor of the competition, which was held for the 19th time this year.
Awards were presented to 25 winners at a ceremony held yesterday, 19 September, at Marel headquarters in Iceland. The awards were presented by Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, President of Iceland and the competition’s patron, and Katrin Jakobsdottir, Minister of Culture and Education.
The purpose of the competition is to support innovation education in Iceland and to encourage and teach children to discover and harness the creativity they possess.
The children competed in seven categories: industry, software, design, safety, toys, energy, the environment and general.
