This year, Iceland is participating for the first time in Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), taking place in more than 100 countries in four weeks‘ time. Marel is one of the main sponsors of the GEW in Iceland.
Katrin Jakobsdottir, Icelandic Minister of Education and Culture, and Katrin Juliusdottir, Minister of Industry, were among the speakers at a press conference at Marel‘s headquarters yesterday to introduce the purpose and program of the GEW.
As of yesterday, anybody and everybody – individuals, groups, associations, schools, companies, municipalities and institutions – are free to organize and register events as part of the week‘s activities.

In Iceland, each day of the GEW program will be devoted to a specific theme. This year the themes are entrepreneurship among women, open innovation, Iceland‘s key industries, societal innovation and creative industries.
The Innovit center for innovation and entrepreneurship, which is organizing the GEW program in Iceland, will also organize a number of key events, including an ideas competition among secondary school students, sponsored by Marel. The week will also mark the beginning of the Innovit‘s entrepreneurship competition, The Golden Egg 2010.
