At a ceremony on Fredensborg Castle Monday 11 June Scanvaegt International was given the award by His Royal Highness the Prince Consort
The prestigious Mark of Honour of King Frederik the 9th for meritorious effort for Danish export is presented annually to Danish companies who have excelled in the export market. Scanvaegt’s results abroad – well over 90% of the company’s turnover comes from foreign markets – were praised by the Prince Consort at the ceremony.
“This is a great honour and recognition for the good work that Scanvaegt has done in the global market for many years and will be an inspiration for further growth. At the same time this shows that Scanvaegt was a good acquisition for Marel Food Systems” says Lárus Ásgeirsson, CEO of Scanvaegt.
Scanvaegt International realized in the early 1980’s that if the company was to expand it needed to build up a worldwide network of subsidiaries. This was done firstly throughout Western Europe and over the years the expansion has led to subsidiaries in South America, USA, Africa and Oceania and in recent years in the new ÈU-countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
When Marel bought all shares in Scanvaegt International last year, Scanvaegt became a member of Marel Food Systems. Scanvaegt and Marel were the market leaders worldwide in developing and selling food processing machines and with the recent changes Marel Food Systems operates 22 subsidiaries on all continents.
One of the key factors in the success has been the company’s emphasis not only on sales but also the all-important after sales service.
“Our customers need food processing solutions to suit their production needs but they also need equipment that performs 24/7/365,” says Managing Director Erik Steffensen and continues: “It has been very decisive in our success that we have been 100% dedicated to the markets we operate in with a high quality service organization.”
Erik Steffensen has been the Managing Director of Scanvaegt International for the past almost 20 years and has been deeply involved in building up the subsidiary network.
The basis of Scanvaegt International’s and indeed Marel Food Systems success are the high tech processing systems for cutting, weighing and portioning of primarily meat, poultry and fish and the IT and traceability systems that the group develops and produces.
“We are at the very forefront of the industry when it comes to developing new, innovative solutions for the food processing industry,” Lárus Asgeirsson says. “Marel Food Systems invests more in research and development than any other manufacturer of equipment for the food processing industry in the world. The result is 15 to 20 high-tech groundbreaking innovations annually,” he concludes.
