Scanvaegt International today received King Frederik IX’s Award for Excellence in Export. For decades, Scanvaegt has focused its efforts on export and built up an extensive network reaching all parts of the world.

His Royal Highness Prince Henrik presented the award to Scanvaegt’s CEOs, Lárus Ásgeirsson and Eric Steffensen, in a royal ceremony at Fredensborg Castle today. King Frederik IX’s award is presented annually to Danish companies who have excelled in the export market. Scanvaegt’s results abroad - 90% of the company’s operations are now in foreign markets – were praised by Prince Henrik.

“This is a great honour and recognition for the good work that Scanvaegt has done in the global market in the last few years and will be an inspiration for further growth. At the same time this shows that Scanvaegt was a good acquisition for Marel Food Systems” says Lárus Ásgeirsson, CEO of Scanvaegt.

“This award is also an interesting example of globalization and the expansion of Icelandic businesses worldwide, because it is not every day that a subsidiary of an Icelandic company receives a royal award in Denmark for excellence in export,” says Lárus.

Scanvaegt International was founded in 1932 but became a part of Marel Food Systems last fall when Marel bought all shares in this well established Danish family company. Scanvaegt and Marel were the market leaders worldwide in developing and selling food processing machines. Scanvaegt has built up a world wide network since 1984 but, with the recent changes, is now a part of Marel Food Systems that operates 22 subsidiaries on all continents.

Marel Food Systems recently underwent a structural change that makes Scanvaegt International one of four main segments within the company. The other segments are Marel ehf. in Iceland, Carnitech in Denmark and AEW Delford in the U.K. Marel Food Systems and its subsidiaries currently employ over 2.100 people.
