Marel employees lined up to give blood on November 5th when the Bloodmobile visited Marel Headquarters to collect blood donations for the Icelandic Blood Bank. Over 40 Marel employees are regular blood donors, but many new donors were recruited. People who used the occasion to give blood for the first time were surprised at how simple it actually is.

“We need 70 donors a day and we very happy to be able to offer this kind of service both to regular donors and new recruits,” said nurse Sigríður Óskarsdóttir, bloodmobile team member. “We’ve been very well received by Marel employees who have truly given from the heart.”
With the new state-of-the-art bloodmobile, the Icelandic Blood Bank has been able to schedule blood drives throughout the city and neighbouring communities twice a week, making donations more convenient. The Icelandic Red Cross donated the bloodmobile to the IBB this fall. The blood drive is a part of a project aimed at increasing the number of blood donors and making blood donations easier.

Marel employees fill out the forms before donating.
