Instead of sending out holiday cards in 2002 Marel hf decided to donate the cost of it’s usual holiday cards to a charity that works with people in need. On December 20, Marel director Hörður Árnason presented a check of 200.000 ISK to Áslaug Laangard, National Commander for the Salvation Army in Iceland.
For decades the Salvation Army in Reykjavik has been a haven for homeless people and people in need on Christmas Eve and everyone is welcomed to their Christmas Eve dinner. In December the Salvation Army also distributes clothing, meal tickets and money to those in need. “We are very grateful for Marel’s donation,” said Valborg Kristjánsdóttir from the SA. “It will really make a difference for our patrons and we were all touched when we received the check this morning.”
Marel would like to wish everyone happy holidays and an enjoyable season.
