Marel Food Systems in the UK and Ireland
The operations of Scanvaegt and Marel in the UK and Ireland have been formally merged into Marel Food Systems, with offices in Leicester, Belfast and Dublin.

Marel - 3Q Results 2006
Sales for the 3rd quarter 2006 totalled EUR 57.6 million (ISK 5.2 billion), compared with 30.4 million (ISK 2.4 billion) at the same time previous year. Sales therefore increased by about 90%. Since the third quarter 2005, the companies AEW Delford Systems and Scanvægt have joined the Group at 7th of April and 4th of August respectively.

Marel is offering 75,000,000 new shares for sale in a public offer. The offer will be in three parts, an offer to pre-emptive right holders, another to institutional investors and a third to the general public. The shares will be offered for sale at a price of ISK 74 per share. The total selling price of shares offered is ISK 5,550 million.

Growing to Meet Market Demands
Marel has been very visible this week. It published excellent half-year consolidated financial statements where among other things the company reported that the operating profit for the second quarter was the largest ever, or about ISK 399 million, and that the profit for the first six months was ISK 115 million.

Marel sponsors the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering design contest 2003
Marel co-sponsors the contest by awarding 2 Palm Zire hand held computers as for Best Design and the Most Original Concept.

The annual design contest held by Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Iceland will take place at the University Theatre Háskólabíó on Friday, February 7th ,2003.

Marel co-sponsors the contest by awarding 2 Palm Zire hand held computers as for Best Design and the Most Original Concept. Opin Kerfi hf awards the main price, a Compaq EVO N1020  laptop, to the winning team.

The contest is broadcast on television and has gained general popularity  due to the innovative ways the teams have solved the challenge with limited budgets. Material cost for the mechanism designed for the contest must not exceed US $100.

 

The Challenge

This year teams must get as many glass balls as possible into a container at the end of a pathway. The glass balls are situated in a container in the middle of the path. En route the mechanism must pull down a draw bridge, pick up the glass balls, go over a rise and obstacles. The team that gets the most glass balls into the container at the end of the course wins.
