Turn-key Marel processing solution at Kósin Seafood, Faeroe Islands. Kósin Seafood fish processing plant runs entirely on Marel equipment with a full traceability system.
With one of the largest fish processing plants in the Faeroe Islands Kósin Seafood utilizes state of the art Marel technology to stay ahead of the competition. “Flexibility, high performance and throughput are of essential value and the solutions from Marel have demonstrated just that,” reveals Kósin’s production manager, Klamint Hansen.
Total Processing Solution
Equipped entirely with Marel machinery the Kósin plant in Klaksvik processes over 12.000 tons of whitefish a year, half of it into salt fish, and the other half into frozen fillets, most of which are IQF portions. The total processing solution at the Klaksvik plant includes Marel raw material graders, salt fish graders, flowlines, IPMs and IQF graders as well the MPS processing software.
Continuous Product Flow
The Marel Flowline System ensures that fish is processed in a continuous flow. After de-heading and filleting, a Marel Intelligent Portioning Machine automatically cuts the fillets into two or more pieces, according to pre-programmed parameters. A conveyor then separates and transports the raw material to a flowscale, which weighs each piece individually. Loin pieces with pinbone are directed to the flowline trimming stations, while centre pieces and tails are directed to rapid trimming stations. Once trimmed, the pieces are then carried of on a conveyor for IQF freezing, grading, and packing.
Full Traceability System
Having invested in the latest Marel machinery and meticulous staff training at their factory in Klaksvik, Kósin Seafood takes pride in its full traceability system that monitors every stage of the production sequence. “With the Marel equipment and the MPS software we are able to monitor and control every stage of the product flow, from landing to dispatch,” says Hansen. “And that is very important to us.”
Production Control
A key component of Marel’s total-solution capability is the linking of all plant operations to its MPS software, which gives managers and operators a completely new level of supervision and control. This includes integrating data from dozens of processing lines simultaneously, while creating individual reports for each line, each machine and each operator.
