Marel hosts the TRANSFORME exhibition
Icelandic design: New Generation
The TRANSFORME exhibition - Icelandic design: New Generationan is partnered by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Iceland and Marel.

On October 22nd Marel is honored to open the exhibition: TRANSFORME - Icelandic Design: New Generation at its headquarters in Gardabaer. The exhibition was recently held in Paris where it attracted a lot of attention.
The Transforme exhibition is an important project for the promotion of contemporary Icelandic design which main productions are textiles, fashion, crafts and graphics. Furniture and objects are also well represented at the exhibition.
One of the essential characteristics of Icelandic culture is its play of contrasts, which are inherently geographical and climatic: a small population in a big country, ice and fire, dark winters and bright summers, modern society and harsh, beautiful nature.

The exhibition will be open on weekdays
from 22.10.2004 – 01.12.2004.
Opening hours: 10:00-16:00
The designers' creations comprise contrasts, even paradoxes: some of them use traditional forms and materials, such as wool, horn or fish skin, while others are at the cutting edge of new technologies and enterprises. Their creations range from jewelry to kitchen tools, from lamps to video games, from furniture to orthopedic prosthesis, from fashion to architecture, from chocolates to avalanche control.
Icelanders have a deep, almost mystical relationship with their landscape, and this is often apparent in the work of many designers. This is perhaps their greatest paradox: profoundly marked by their country and its nature, they remain unusually open and internationally minded.
