Marel was presented with an award as the Outstanding Supplier Processing - Large Company. The panel stated that "Marel is a pioneer in its high-technology development for the fish processing industry and is indeed an international leader in its field of expertise."
The fishereis Minister Arni Mathieson and Mayor of Kopavogur Gunnar Birgisson hosted the Icelandic Fisheries Awards on the opening day of the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition in 2005. The awards were set up to recognise achievement both within the Icelandic fishing industry and internationally.
A total of 13 winners received their trophies in front of 400 invited guests at the Gerdarsafn Art Gallery, just minutes from the exhibition in Kopavogur. Among the winners were Marel and Hampidjan as well as Baader from Germany and Nesco Weighing from the UK.

Categories covered the catching, processing and international sectors. Grant Collier Marketing Manager of the event said, "the judges found it a long and difficult process in deciding the winners this year, the standard of entry has been tremendous from both Iceland and the international markets."
