Marel hf, Iceland, announces changes in management at the newly acquired AEW Delford Systems in Great Britain and at the corporate headquarters in Iceland.
Ásgeir Ásgeirsson has been appointed Managing Director of the newly acquired AEW Delford Systems and Jón Birgir Gunnarsson as Director of Business Development at AEW Delford Systems Ltd.
The company also announces the appointment of Sigsteinn P. Grétarsson as Director of Business Development at Marel hf., Kristján Hallvarðsson as Director of Product Development at Marel hf., and Ragnheiður Halldórsdóttir as Manager of Information Technology and Quality at Marel hf.
These changes are a result of Marel’s strategy recently introduced at the company’s annual general meeting and the purchase of the British AEW Delford Systems Ltd.
Ásgeir Ásgeirsson, Managing Director of AEW Delford Systems, started working for Marel hf in 1986 and worked on product development until 1996. From 1996 until 2001, Ásgeirsson held the position of IT and Quality Manager at Marel. In 2001 he became one of two Directors of Product Development, a position he held until the end of March 2006. In 2004, Ásgeirsson also took on the position of Managing Director of the Marel subsidiary Pols hf. in Isafjordur, Iceland, at the time of Marel’s acquisition of Pols until its consolidation with Marel at the end of 2005. Ásgeirsson completed his B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Iceland in 1986, a B.Sc. in computer science, also from the University of Iceland, in 1990, and his M.Sc. degree in electronic and computer engineering from the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1993.
Jón Birgir Gunnarsson, Director of Business Development at AEW Delford Systems Ltd. first joined Marel in 1996 for a temporary summer job, but became a permanent employee in early 1997. From 1997 until 2002 Gunnarsson worked with designing system solutions as well as being a project manager and sales area manager. From 2002 to date Gunnarsson has worked as a consultant in Marel’s Consulting Centre. Gunnarsson is a master of machine construction from the Reykjavik Trade School and holds a diploma in mechanical technology from the Technical College of Iceland from 1997. He entered the MBA program at the University of Iceland in 2005.
Sigsteinn P. Grétarsson, Director of Business Development at Marel hf, started working for Marel in 1997 as sales manager and consultant in Sales and Marketing. In 2001 Grétarsson transferred to Brisbane, Australia, where he was the Managing Director of Marel's Australian subsidiary from its start in 2001 until 2005. Since his return to Marel’s headquarters in Iceland, Grétarsson has worked on mergers and investment projects. Grétarsson holds a B.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering from Bradley University, Illinois, 1990, and a M.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1992.
Kristján Hallvarðsson , Director of Product Development at Marel hf, has worked for Marel since 1993 on projects in the Electro-Technical and Embedded Software Centers. From 1995 until 1998 he worked with sales and service in Marel USA. Hallvarðsson was Product Manager of the Portioning Group from 2001 to date. Hallvarðsson completed his B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering at the University of Iceland in 1993 and a M.Sc. in electrical engineering from NCSU in 1998.
Ragnheiður Halldórsdóttir, Manager of Information Technology and Quality at Marel hf, has worked for Marel since 1995 implementing and managing the ISO9001 quality system. She became Quality Manager in 2000 and has also worked as the CEO’s assistant in various special assignments, for example strategic planning. Halldórsdóttir is a B.Sc. in mechanical engineering from the University of Iceland, 1991, and a M.Sc. in operational engineering from DTU, Denmark, 1995.
