Overview
Designed for weighing a continuous product flow
Marel hopper scales are designed for weighing a continuous product flow into batches for packing and other purposes. The hopper scale consists of a stainless steel hopper, a load cell, and a weight indicator. The hopper scale is controlled by a software program, which normally runs on an M2200 indicator.
The scale is designed to withstand the harsh environment commonly found in food processing plants, without any trade-off in weighing accuracy. The system is highly automated, extremely accurate and robust. Normally, the hopper scale is fed by an external in feed conveyor system. There are numerous variations to the basic hopper setup.
Easy to use
The M2000 Scale Indicator is operated with push buttons and keypad, using a simple built-in menu system. The indicator has a large, bright weighing display, and another display to show tare, grade number, etc.
The Hopper Scale Indicator also has a large filling bar display which shows clearly the packing status in real-time.

Pack-off example
Material is fed into the Hopper from a raw material conveyor which is controlled by the M2000 scale.
When the Hopper has met its specified weight, a buffer hopper closes for temporary storage of the product. A light indicates that the hopper is ready to discharge.
The sensor button is manually pressed to release the Hopper’s contents into an empty box. The hopper closes and the buffer hopper opens to restart the cycle.
Software
Designed for the M3000 Controller
The P564 Speed-Packing software solution is designed for the M3000 Controller. The current version supports the use of two hoppers. The P564 software controls the flow, speed, and direction of material to two hoppers in order to maximize throughput and accuracy (+/- 1 piece).
The flow speed is controlled using four speed settings: Coarse, Medium, Fine, and Dribble. This provides a quick coarse filling and an accurate fine filling to minimize overweight. The software has an option for defining different products and the selection of a new product is easy. An optional MPS connection, which allows remote definitions and settings, is provided. The P564 software is modular, consisting of:
- The Scale component for weighing
- The Portion Control component for status control of the filling
- The Packing component for product definitions
- The Inverter component for controlling the inverters/speed controls
- The LUA component for the customized part of the interface
the PLC for the release mechanism and others
Features
Storage capacity
- Up to 99 products (setups)
- Each product contains weight specifications for coarse and/or fine filling offsets to maximize throughput and accuracy
- Settings for allowed tolerances
Statistics
- Number of batches within allowed tolerances
- Number of batches, overweight
- Number of batches, underweight
- Number of batches, total
- Calculated throughput (batches/minute)
Speed settings
- Fine tuning of speed controllers can be performed online from the M3000 Controller

Versions
Arc Opening Solutions
Arc opening solutions are used for various products, typically in applications such as packing or in-weighing. This type of hopper is well suited for packing or weighing whole products, such as fish and poultry, and fish meal. On arc opening hoppers, the bottom of the hopper opens upwards from the center. The shape of the hopper makes the product slide out easily. The hopper is used typically with the M3000 controller.
Features
- Available in sizes ranging from 100 - 1000 l
- Normal weighing accuracy 1000 - 1500 deviations
- Ideal for weighing a flow of products
- Suitable for fish, meat, poultry, fresh and dry
- Connects with Marel's MPS software
Bottom Opening Solutions
Bottom opening solutions are normally used for very sticky or small, non-fragile products. The product is released from the hopper by horizontally slipping the bottom (a sliding plate) from under the product.
Features
- Available in sizes ranging from 4 - 10 l
- Normal weighing accuracy 1000 - 1500 deviations
- Ideal for yield monitoring on flow lines
- Suitable for fresh or sticky products
- Typically used for fish waste
- Connects with Marel's MPS software
Clam Opening Solutions
Clam Opening solutions are used for various products and in applications such as packing or in-weighing. These solutions are well suited for whole products, for example fish and poultry.
The product is released from the hopper by opening the bottom of the hopper from the center. The shape of the hopper makes the product slide out easily.
Features
- Available in sizes ranging from 20 - 200 l
- Normal weighing accuracy 1000 - 1500 deviations
- Ideal for yield monitoring, in-weighing, or 2- or 3-way grading
- Suitable for fresh or sticky products, fish, shrimp, surf clams, and poultry
- Connects with Marel's MPS software
Flipper Opening Solutions
Flipper Opening solutions are used for various products. They are mostly used in packing applications such as packing into bags, boxes or trays.
These solutions are well suited for small products, such as shrimp or poultry pieces. The product is released from the hopper by opening the bottom of the hopper from the center. The hopper lids are made of polyethylene plastic, which makes these solutions a good choice for very sticky products.
Features
- Available in sizes ranging from 3 - 100 l
- Normal weighing accuracy 1000 - 1500 deviations
- Larger models ideal for in-weighing
- Suitable for fresh, frozen, sticky or bagged products, e.g. fish, scallops, shrimp, surf clams, and poultry
- Connection to Marel's MPS software
Icedosing Solutions
An Icedosing solution consists of several units: stainless steel ice container, ice conveyor, hopper buffer and two hopper scales, an M3000 controller and box conveyor (optional).
Icedosing solutions are designed to weigh and release a specific quantity of crushed ice into boxes of fresh products from processing lines. Crushed ice is dispatched from the ice container to the hopper according to predefined parameters. Based on the box type, the total box weight, or a combination of the two, these parameters ensure that excess box weight is kept at an absolute minimum without product quality being compromised.
Features
Icedosing solutions are available in three different models: dependi
